SOPHIE STRAAT

Protest singer Sophie Straat had a meteoric start to her career in 2020. Her debut EP, "T Is Niet Mijn Schuld" (2020), won an Edison Award, and her debut album, "Smartlap Is Niet Dood" (2023), was nominated for 3FM Awards, Edison Awards, and the Amsterdam Arts Prize. Her EP, "Gebroken Spiegels" (2024), consists of a single long song recorded with the Metropole Orchestra, and is, according to De Groene Amsterdammer, "rarely grandiose and daring." Within a few years, Sophie Straat became "the figurehead of the socially engaged generation of twentysomethings" (Volkskrant), and her music has garnered over fifteen million streams. Her latest album, "Wie de fak is Sophie Straat" (2025), is a sharp, musical dissection of the Netherlands and received rave reviews from the press and media.

Sophie has impressed live at festivals like Oerol, ITGWO, Best Kept Secret, Concert at Sea, Wildeburg, Lowlands, and Pukkelpop (BE), as well as with sold-out club tours across the country. The icing on the cake is Sophie Straat's Protestfest; a celebration of protest and activism in the performing arts, held for three years running at a completely sold-out Paradiso in Amsterdam. Part 4 of this festival has now been announced for March 28, 2026.

Besides her music, Sophie Straat is a multidisciplinary artist who also creates artwork, photos, and films, such as her short film "Mooier Als Je Lacht" (Beautiful as You Laugh), which revolves around three album songs. Sophie Straat is here to say something with her protest songs, with the ultimate goal of bringing about change. Because the world is shit and is only getting shittier, but "the revolution can no longer be stopped" (-De Standaard, BE).
